Malaysia’s halal food industry received a boost thanks to the Halal Ingredients Asia 2015 trade exhibition.

The event brought together buyers and sellers for the three-day exhibition and industry experts for a two-day conference that took place concurrently.

Halal Ingredients Asia is looking to become the region’s leading halal ingredients event.

The event saw government authorities, certification agencies, regional and local manufacturers, ingredient suppliers and solution providers come together to discuss key updates on the business of halal food and personal care in A1sia.

The exhibition also became a meeting point for participants in the local industry and their international counterparts, offering an opportunity to promote companies and products to a global audience of industry professionals.

The event was supported by the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC), which was established in 2006. HDC coordinates the overall development of the halal industry in Malaysia and focuses on the development of halal standards, auditing and certification, and capacity-building for halal products and services.

HDC also promotes participation and facilitates growth of Malaysian companies in the global halal market.

“This event is the best platform to showcase the latest halal advancements and deliver industry insights and standards,” said Amir Shamsudin, the sales and marketing manager of Aladdinstreet.com, a halal e-market.

Aladdinstreet.com seeks to become a gateway to the world’s halal market.

Amir said more than 60 000 corporations in more than 30 countries around the world, featuring a catalogue in excess of one million halal products and services, will be invited on board to trade via Aladdinstreet.com soon.

The site is a wholly-owned entity of the Aladdin Group of Companies and is helmed by co-founder, chairman and Malaysia’s first astronaut, Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor.

Other companies that took part in the event were Iprona Spa, a fruit company from Italy, which supplies fruit concentrates to producers of juices and beverages, jams, milk, food and confectionery, and food supplements. The company’s range covers more than 50 fruit types of fruit concentrates, pulp concentrates, puree concentrates, natural colouring, extracts and client-specific fruit mixes and compounds.

Another company involved in the event was Matrix Flavours & Fragrances (MFF) Sdn Bhd, which produces flavours.

With more than 35 years’ experience, the company is a leading flavour manufacturer in Asia with ISO/FSSC22000/Halal/Kosher certifications.

During the three-day exhibition, MFF application specialists prepared a series of daily gastronomical delights with new flavour concepts. Their menu which follows their tagline, “flavours that leave a big impression” includes passion fruit crush, milk Hokkaido cakes, white coffee and pomegranate drinks.

“We have a wide choice of flavours across various food applications which includes sweet and savoury flavours for baking, ice-cream, beverages, confectionery, oils and fats, dairy products, instant noodles, pharmaceuticals, latex and animal feed. Our technical expertise and cost-saving solutions make us a reliable flavour partner.

We also offer a tailor-made solution to achieve the right taste so that the products stand out in a competitive business environment,” said MFF Sdn Bhd general manager Fred So.

For So, Halal Ingredients Asia is the best platform and meeting place for the entire local and international halal industry.

“The event gives access to the entire halal ingredients industry and networking opportunities,” he said.

Another exhibitor is Nis Spice Manufacturing Sdn Bhd.

“Ours is a family business and we produce a blend of spices. Our factory is in Johor Baru. We have more than 10 years of experience and knowledge of blending and manufacturing spices,” said Allen Wong, a former chef who started Nis Spice Manufacturing in 1989.

Wong said the Halal Ingredients Asia was an educational event that provided a direct route to a rapidly growing market, estimated to be worth US$1.9bil (RM8.3bil). Up to 90% of this comes from halal foods.
